🌺 Tajinaste in Bloom
Dates: May/June
A once-a-year spectacle high above the clouds.
For just a few magical weeks each spring, something wild happens on Mount Teide: the tajinaste rojo explodes into bloom. These tall, fiery-red towers of flowers are found only in the Canary Islands, and this striking red variety—Echium wildpretii—grows exclusively on the slopes of Mount Teide in Tenerife. Think alien desert meets floral fantasy.
Where to find it:
Up in Teide National Park, at just the right altitude, you’ll find fields of these surreal blooms rising out of the volcanic landscape. It’s dramatic, peaceful, and totally otherworldly.
When to go:
Peak bloom usually hits between late April and early June, depending on the weather. We keep an eye on it, so you don’t miss your chance to see it at its best.
Why it’s special:
The tajinaste rojo is more than just beautiful—it’s incredibly rare. This species grows nowhere else on Earth but here, in the wild volcanic terrain of Tenerife. And when it blooms, it turns the harsh landscape into a glowing sea of red. It’s nature’s version of a limited-edition drop—short-lived, stunning, and unforgettable.
Stay at Nine, and you’ll be perfectly placed to catch this rare natural show.
Whether you're chasing epic photos or just soaking in the magic, we’ll point you to the best spots at the right time. It’s one of those “only-in-Tenerife” experiences that will stay with you long after the petals fade.
