Why we decided to close next summer
Yes, we have made a decision to close Nine Coliving for July and August next summer, as a regular coliving that is. This was not an easy decision since our last summer (2026) turned out to be vey busy. So why still close next summer? I honestly wonder myself weather this is a good decision, but we decided to try something new anyways with always having the option to go back to how things were.
Our High and Low seasons
Our high season has always been from October to April. When the rest of Europe goes into it’s cold winter, the Canary Island stay a summer paradise all year long. That is why many of our guests keep coming back in winter and we are usually fully booked months ahead. Then, when spring arrives bookings go down and in the months of May and June the house is small but cosy. These are also the months that the island celebrates some of its most beautiful cultural festivities and we love sharing them with you. People who have been to a Romeria or a Baile de Magos know what we are talking about.
And then come July. July used to be a very slow month (we used it a few times to close and remodel), but in April of this year we literally only had one booking for July and one for August. August used to be a much better month so this reality started to hit the closer summer came. We needed to make things happen for this summer, but also start to plan for summers to come. It seemed that Digital Nomads had more and more beautiful destinations in Europe to go to in summer, as we totally understand! So this problem was not only a problem of Nine. Most colivings on the island were truggeling and decided to close for the summer months.
Groups and retreats
And so a new plan started to form. What if we opened July and August for groups to rent the whole house. This could also give our team a few months of less hands on and more time for other projects and a bit of a break. The house if of course perfect to host groups, retreats and family holidays, so we made this the plan for next summer. So we won’t close, but you won’t be able to book Nine as a regular Coliving guest. If you are interested in renting Nine for you and you nomad friends, host a retreat or bring your company together, you can find more information here.
Plot twist
And then the unexpected happened. Last minute bookings started to come in and before we knew it, we had a full house in July and August. At first it wasn’t clear why all of a sudden people were booking, but after asking guests we got some answers. Many people were actually escaping the heatwaves in mainland Europe and so we ended up with a house full of Italians, French and Spanish guests, amongst some others. A strange reality really. We are used to people escape the cold and come to the canaries, but now people were escaping the extreme heat and come the us as well.
Of course this seems to be one of many factors. A new generation of Digital Nomads seems to have started traveling, other Coliving on the island being closed for summer and AI seemed to have a big impact on why people choose Nine. And then there were the unique cases of people who actually wanted to come in winter, but ended up booking for summer. A bit of a mix as you can see, but never the less, Nine was full and we had an amazing summer sharing the island with you.
So why still close?
Good question! And one we will get answers too in the next months I guess. It is hard to predict what next summer would be like and as I said, the team feels happy to try something a bit different. So we will give it a try and adapt as we go. We will keep you posted on our journey as always. And for those who are in for an even more special moth at Nine, soon we will launch our plans for May and June, which we will be converting in two cultural immersion months at Nine. Coliving as normal, but with the goal to have your experience all that our beautiful local culture has to offer. Even more than we already do! So get ready for Rometias, Baile de Magos, Wine tasting, Fire Works, Tajinaste, Guachines and much more!
